Eldad Maestro has made short-length films, video art and experimental films. After having run a studio in Tel-Aviv for nine years, he took a sabbatical year in 1990, closed the studio and travelled to the Far East. Back in Israel, he made photo etchings with the pictures he made in Japan, giving birth to his current exhibition series 'Fields'.

"I was walking in the fields. I entered the Zen Gardens, strolling and wandering through the temples. I had not read about them beforehand, nor had I taken any guide; I preferred to approach the experience as if it were a blank page on which the gardens would write their own story".

"About fields: I consider that is his image of memory. There is something of trace colouration. I guess he has used positive and negative as the base prints, he uses which ever he likes. It does not matter which he uses, if it comes close to his image of memory after he has taken the time to 'brew' it."
Masami Fujisawa, Chief Editor 'Asahi Camera'.
